A sedimentological oxymoron: highly evolved glauconite of earliest diagenetic origin

چکیده
This work examines the possibility of a rapid formation glauconite in relatively shallow platform environment (below fair-weather wave baseline). The materials studied here are uppermost Jurassic alternations carbonate beds and marly interbeds, namely, Assises de Croï Formation Boulonnais area (northernmost France). yield field evidences an early diagenetic origin both interbeds contain glauconite, questioning duration relative to that beds. Carbon oxygen stable isotope composition confirm growth. Contrasted grain-size distribution patterns quartz grain populations (isolated after acid digestion magnetic separation) evidenced formed sediment deposition. Glauconite allegedly requires protracted episodes ion capture from water column, which is no longer possible when gets trapped within authigenic carbonates. Therefore, in-situ preceded authigenesis. Yet, chemical grains (Fe K) typifies as highly evolved, meaning its must have lasted over times, according conventional views. Consequently, our results challenge these views can form environments (which has been already brought light previously) it concluded be markedly enriched K Fe, unprecedented result.

Sedimentological Analysis of Sands
This paper presents a practical sequence to study sand grains at the macroscopical scale. The approach consists of two mains phases, the recognition of the grains and the assessment of some of its characteristics. The method is validated on the dimensional features by comparison with a sieving procedure through the analysis of eight large sand samples of different locations.
متن کاملOrigin and radiation of the earliest vascular land plants.
Colonization of the land by plants most likely occurred in a stepwise fashion starting in the Mid-Ordovician. The earliest flora of bryophyte-like plants appears to have been cosmopolitan and dominated the planet, relatively unchanged, for some 30 million years. It is represented by fossilized dispersed cryptospores and fragmentary plant remains. In the Early Silurian, cryptospore abundance and...
متن کاملHyperthermophily and the origin and earliest evolution of life.
The possibility of a high-temperature origin of life has gained support based on indirect evidence of a hot, early Earth and on the basal position of hyperthermophilic organisms in rRNA-based phylogenies. However, although the availability of more than 80 completely sequenced cellular genomes has led to the identification of hyperthermophilic-specific traits, such as a trend towards smaller gen...

متن کاملThe Earliest Pterodactyloid and the Origin of the Group
The pterosaurs were a diverse group of Mesozoic flying reptiles that underwent a body plan reorganization, adaptive radiation, and replacement of earlier forms midway through their long history, resulting in the origin of the Pterodactyloidea, a highly specialized clade containing the largest flying organisms. The sudden appearance and large suite of morphological features of this group were su...
